The IGFS Board of Directors is extremely pleased to announce two major initiatives that will greatly enhance our services and programming for the geriatric fracture community.   The initiatives are a direct result of the expansion of our committee structure and contributions from IGFS leaders over the past 12 months.

IGFS Approves Accreditation Requirements for the Geriatric Orthopaedic (GO) Fellowship

The IGFS has signaled their desire to recognize geriatric orthopaedic fellowships that promote high quality post residency-training experience in geriatric orthopaedics and related geriatric trauma care.  Recognizing the ongoing operation and future development of Fellowship programs the Board approved accreditation requirements put forward by the IGFS Research & Education Committee.   The requirements will serve as guidance from our organization for curriculum development and qualifying case loads for Geriatric Orthopaedic Fellowship programs.

IGFS Board to Invest in New Data Capture and Delivery Platform

In another major action, the Board has approved investment in a redesign of our data capture and delivery system that will greatly enhance the performance improvement value of IGFS Certification.   The Board has allocated a budget of funds to invest in a redesign of our RedCap survey instrument to meet the needs of our growing body of certified programs.

The Board has been aware of the need to invest in a more robust delivery mechanism for certified centers to submit and analyze their performance data and benchmark with other participating programs.   The opportunity to provide a platform to encourage more multi-site research projects is another motivation to launch this initiative and to select RedCap as our research instrument.

Over the coming months the IGFS Patient Safety, Quality, and Certification Committee will be working to redesign the survey instrument to provide greater flexibility and access to our members. The Committee welcomes thoughts from the membership on additional optional data points we could capture in the revised survey tool.   If you have any recommendations, please email the IGFS office,
