Own the Bone Program / The American Orthopaedic Association


The American Orthopaedic Association developed Own the Bone as a quality improvement program to address the osteoporosis treatment gap and prevent subsequent fragility fractures. Through a clinically-proven, web-based patient registry and 10 prevention measures, Own the Bone provides tools and helps institutions to establish a fracture liaison service (FLS) in which a care coordinator (normally a nurse, nurse practitioner or a physician assistant) ensures that post-fracture patients are identified and receive appropriate evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, under the supervision of their primary care physician, orthopaedic surgeon or osteoporosis specialist.  


National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF)

The National Osteoporosis Foundation is dedicated to preventing osteoporosis, promoting strong bones, and reducing human suffering through education, advocacy and research.

International Osteporosis Foundation (IOF)

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) is a registered not-for-profit, non-governmental foundation based in Switzerland.  IOF has been granted Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.   IOF functions as a global alliance of patient societies, research organizations, healthcare professionals and international companies working to promote bone, muscle and joint health.

American Geriatric Society (AGS)

The American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is a not-for-profit organization of over 6,000 health professionals devoted to improving the health, independence and quality of life of all older people. The Society provides leadership to healthcare professionals, policy makers and the public by implementing and advocating for programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy.

AO North America
