Meeting Description:

To address the crisis in the treatment of osteoporosis, 36 organizations from around the world have signed a “Call to Action” pledging to intensify their current efforts to increase the screening, diagnosis and treatment of high risk individuals to prevent fractures and to partner with patients to make informed choices about osteoporosis treatment options.

On this webinar, leading researchers and bone health experts will discuss new data on hip fractures and lack of treatment of osteoporosis patients, share the results of a survey of patients and clinicians, andoutline recommendations to aggressively address the critical care gap and reduce fracture risk in our aging population.

Allowing patients at high-risk for osteoporosis to go untested and untreated frequently leads to debilitating fractures that cause disability, loss of independence, and even death. In the US, hospitalizations for osteoporotic fractures accounted for 43 percent of combined hospitalizations for osteoporotic fractures, heart attack, stroke, and breast cancer. And more than half of the osteoporotic fracture hospitalizations were for hip fracture, the most devastating consequence of osteoporosis. This is not only a medical crisis but an economic one too.

This webinar is open to all at no cost. Invitees include:

  • ASBMR members
  • Members of the 36 organizations that have signed on to the Call to Action
  • Media representatives
