Geriatric Orthopaedic Fracture Conference: Hip Fractures - Best Prevention. Best Care. Best Recovery.

This course will focus on the continuum of clinical co-management strategies in the care of our senior orthopaedic patients including fracture prevention, osteoporosis risk and management, quality of life issues associated with geriatric fractures.

Description

This course will facilitate and improve collaboration between orthopaedic surgeons, primary care providers, hospitalists, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers in the care of older fracture patients, particularly hip fracture patients.  This course will focus on the continuum of clinical co-management strategies in the care of our senior orthopaedic patients including fracture prevention, osteoporosis risk and management and rehabilitation issues. The means through which this will be accomplished will be interactive, large and small group sessions.

Educational Objectives

Following completion of this activity, learners should be better able to:

  • Identify fall prevention strategies that can be incorporated into clinical care in the elderly.
  • Discuss nutritional assessment and supplementation strategies for older fracture patients.
  • Describe salient perioperative management strategies in frail elderly fracture patient.
  • Describe strategies for appropriate rehabilitation post fracture in the frail elderly patient.
